What is ΔE and how do I read these labels?

ΔE (Delta E) is the international standard for how different two colors look to the human eye — we use the CIE ΔE2000 formula. 0 means an identical color; the bigger the number, the bigger the difference. Because we measure every filament with a spectrophotometer, these labels reflect the real filament color, not the brand's product photo.

  • Virtually identical ΔE 0–1 The eye can't tell them apart
  • Very close ΔE 1–2 Only visible side by side, up close
  • Close ΔE 2–5 A slight difference when placed side by side
  • Noticeable difference ΔE 5–10 Same color family, but a clearly different shade
  • Different color ΔE 10+ A different color — not a substitute
